Why pickleball is exploding in Brisbane
Pickleball is now the fastest growing sport in Australia — and Brisbane is no exception. The sport's appeal crosses all age groups, from teenagers picking it up for the first time to retirees who've found it easier on the body than tennis. Doubles play, social formats, and competitive ladders have all contributed to a rapidly expanding community.
Brisbane's climate makes it ideal for outdoor pickleball year-round, and the city's network of recreation centres and sports complexes are quickly being converted to include dedicated pickleball courts.

Where can I play pickleball in Brisbane?
Brisbane has a growing number of pickleball venues including the Queensland Tennis Centre at Chandler, indoor centres across the inner suburbs, and community recreation centres in areas like Chermside, Indooroopilly and Springwood. Courtly is currently onboarding Brisbane venues and will have them all bookable online shortly.
When is Courtly launching in Brisbane?

Is there a Brisbane pickleball association?
Yes — Pickleball Queensland operates across the entire state including Brisbane and the Gold Coast. They run sanctioned competitions, development programs and social play. Courtly works alongside associations to make court booking easier for all their members.
How is pickleball different from tennis?
Pickleball uses a smaller court (roughly a quarter of a tennis court), a solid paddle instead of a strung racquet, and a perforated plastic ball. The smaller court means less running, making it easier on the body — and the slower ball speed gives players more time to react. Most tennis players pick up pickleball very quickly and love how social the game is.

What equipment do I need to play pickleball?
All you need is a pickleball paddle and ball — and most venues provide these for hire if you're just starting out. Many players start with a basic beginner paddle in the $50–$100 range before upgrading once they're hooked. Courtly will soon have a gear shop with paddles, balls, bags and court shoes available for delivery across Australia.
